Telescope reviews are useful for exactly two things and misleading for most of the rest, and the difference between the two comes down to a single question: could the reviewer actually measure what they are describing, or are they reporting an impression from one night?
What a review is genuinely good for
Mechanical detail: whether the focuser is smooth, whether the mount settles quickly, whether the finder shoe is solid, how heavy it feels to carry, and whether anything about the assembly is annoying. Those are the things that decide whether an instrument gets used, and they are exactly what a specification sheet cannot tell you.
What a review usually cannot support
Comparative optical claims. Judging one 200mm mirror against another needs a bench, a controlled test and identical conditions, and almost no review has any of those. A reviewer who observed on two different nights is describing the atmosphere as much as the telescope, and usually more of it.
The scoring problem
A score out of ten aggregates incompatible things and hides the weighting. Two instruments can score identically for opposite reasons, which is no use at all to somebody choosing between them. What helps is a description specific enough that you can decide whether the reviewer's priorities are yours.
What this site does instead
It publishes the printed price and the published aperture with the page and date they were read from, and it says so plainly where a brand publishes neither. That is a smaller claim than a review makes and it is one you can check in thirty seconds, which is the trade this site is built on.
