The rules that come before the price
A filter goes over the FRONT of the instrument, never in the eyepiece. Eyepiece solar filters exist on the second-hand market and they crack under concentrated heat.
Eclipse glasses are for looking at the sun with your eyes alone. Held behind a telescope, a binocular or a camera lens they fail instantly, because the instrument concentrates the light rather than merely admitting it.
ISO 12312-2 is the standard a solar viewer must meet, not a badge that proves it does. Counterfeit markings are widespread before every eclipse, which is why the American Astronomical Society keeps a list of suppliers it has actually checked.
A dedicated hydrogen alpha telescope shows prominences and surface detail a white-light filter cannot, and the cheapest one in this index prints $995 for 40mm of aperture.
