The binocular tripod adapter, which is a few pounds
Most binoculars have a threaded socket behind a cap between the barrels. An L-shaped adapter screws in there and onto any photographic tripod. That is the entire mechanism, and it is the cheapest large improvement available to a binocular owner: mounted 10x50s show detail that handheld ones only hint at.
When a binocular tripod mount stops being optional
Above about 12x magnification or 60mm of aperture. At 15x70 the shake at arm's length removes most of the resolution the extra glass bought, and the weight makes sustained viewing impossible anyway. Anyone buying that size should budget for the mount in the same purchase.
Harnesses and the neck
A binocular harness spreads the weight across the shoulders instead of hanging it from the neck, which matters over a long day and costs very little. For mounted astronomy the equivalent problem is looking up: a reclining chair, or a parallelogram mount that keeps the eyepieces at head height, solves the awkward posture that otherwise ends sessions early.
